Friday's Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $228,000,000; Four tickets won the second prize

The jackpot for Friday Mega Millions game rolled up to $228,000,000 (lump-sum cash payout $$103.4 million) after nobody hit all five lotto numbers plus the Mega Ball number Tuesday night. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, April 23rd, 2024 were 11-17-33-39-43 with Mega Ball number 14 and Megaplier 4. The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling over for 8 draws since Friday, March 29th, 2024.The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in NJ, matched all six numbers for a $0 million top prize.
Even though there was no jackpot winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions had some big winners. There were four second prize winners from Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing, matching the first five lotto numbers except the Mega Ball number. The four lucky ticket(s) bought in CA,FL(2),NC, each won one quarter million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Also, 14 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. In addition, 328 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. There were 869 tickets that matched three white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine prize tiers, there were 1,272,436 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. About 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back for the players in prizes. Roughly 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. About 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. To play, pick 5 numbers from a set of 70 and choose one Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay $1 extra to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners can select one-time lump sum cash payout instead.
