Powerball jackpot goes to $86 million; 1 ticket won the second prize

The grand prize for Saturday Powerball lottery climbed to $86 million (lump-sum cash payout $60.9 million) after no player hit all five white ball numbers plus the Powerball number Wednesday night. The winning numbers from Wednesday night, October 20th, 2021 were 07-29-36-41-43 with Power Ball 05. No one won the Powerball grand prize in the past 46 draws since Wednesday, June 16th, 2021. The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in , matched all six numbers for a $31.00 million top prize.
Though the grand prize was not hit Wednesday evening, Powerball did produce some big winners. There was a sole second prize winner from Wednesday night's drawing, matching all five numbers but not the Powerball number. The one lucky ticket(s) bought in North Carolina, each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Additional prizes won Wednesday night included 6 tickets that matched 4 white numbers in addition to the Powerball and won $10,000. There were 2 tickets matched 4+1 with Power Play option, multiplying the prizes by 4 for a total win of $40,000 each! Also, 165 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $100. There were 62 tickets matched 4 white ball with Power Play option, doubled the winnings to a total win of $200 each! 499 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Powerball number. These tickets are also each worth $100. There were 165 tickets matched 3+1 with Power Play option, doubled the prizes to win a total win of $200 each.
With nine different prize tiers, the Wednesday night's drawing produced 383,646 winning tickets across the nation with a total amount of $0 prizes.
Powerball is played in 42 states, D.C. and the US Virgin Islands. Powerball drawings occur every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. The minimum Powerball advertised jackpot is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 yearly increment payments in 29 years. Winners may choose one-time lump-sum cash payout instead.
