With no winner in the latest drawing, the Mega Millions lottery jackpot is going to be worth $421,000,000 (cash option $$195.9 million) the next time the multistate lottery is played on Tuesday. The amount carried over because nobody hit all 6 numbers to win the $393,000,000 grand prize Friday night. The winning numbers drawn Friday night, May 17th, 2024 were 08-17-40-60-70 and the Mega Ball was 03, Megaplier was 2.
Though there was no grand prize winner Friday evening, Mega Millions had some big winners. There was a sole ticket that matched all 5 lotto numbers and won the second prize. The 1 second prize winning ticket(s) sold in MI won $1,000,000 cash each.
Additional prizes won Friday evening included 16 tickets that matched 4 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Additional winners Friday night included 344 tickets that matched four lotto numbers and won $500. 959 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine different prize tiers, there were a total of 1,587,470 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Friday, May 17th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions game can be played in 43 states and D.C. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players through prizes. Approximately 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Around 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings are held 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times except grand prize. The overall odds of winning any prizes are about 1 to 14. The chances of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot is $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can select one time lump sum cash payout option instead.
