Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot climbs to $22 million; Three second prize tickets sold

The Mega Millions game jackpot has jumped up to $22 million (cash value $15.8 million) for the next drawing in the multistate lottery game Tuesday night. The grand prize amount has been carried over because nobody hit all six winning numbers to take the $20 million jackpot Friday night. The numbers from Friday night, September 24th, 2021 were 17, 21, 27, 43, 56 and the Mega Ball was 15, Megaplier was 3.
Even though there was no grand prize winner Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were three lucky winners matched all five white ball numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the 2nd prize. The three second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in won $1,000,000 cash each.
Additional major winners Friday night included 16 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Additional prizes won Friday night included 268 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. There were 746 tickets that matched three white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine prize tiers, there were 1,108,576 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Friday, September 24th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is an U.S. popular lottery game sold in 44 member states as a pari-mutuel jackpot game. It holds the record biggest jackpot in North American lottery history. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prizes. About 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Approximately 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The overall chances of winning any prizes are about 1 to 14. The chances of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize starts at $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can select one-time lump-sum cash payout instead.
